Parents and Students,
Let me begin by first welcoming you to the Higgins National Junior Honor Society website. This will be the locus of all information concerning NJHS going forward this year.
Secondly, I would like to congratulate you on your interest in pursuing the National Junior Honor Society. It is truly a worthy endeavor and the process and experience will certainly aid in your development.
With this said, NJHS is not for everyone. Students are held to incredibly high standards, which are non negotiable, and it is not uncommon for students to lose their eligibility. Before going forward, I would like outline the basic standards for induction:
1) Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.67 through the final 2 quarters of seventh grade (3rd and 4th quarters) and throughout the 8th grade. If a student's cumulative GPA falls below the 3.67 threshold at the end of any quarter of grade 8 then they are no longer eligible.
2) Students must complete a minimum of two community services each month starting in July. Failure to complete summer hours will result in ineligibility. Student summer hours will be collected on Wednesday, September 2nd 2015.
3) Students must exhibit proper behavior in the school and local community. Failure to maintain proper decorum will result in being found ineligible.
Please let it be noted that I am not listing the above to scare potential candidates, but simply as a means to illustrate the causes for someone being found ineligible.
As for other information concerning NJHS, please navigate this website. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at
[email protected]. Please note that during summer months, there may be a delay in response.
Cordially Yours,
Brendan Powers, NJHS Advisor
